The Tiffin Seneca Farmers Market would like to thank our sustaining partner Sutton Bank for making the Market possible.
You’ll find tables overflowing will all of your fall fixings; pumpkins, kale, peppers, potatoes, onions, and mushrooms! Put it all together and you get a delicious soup! And you can’t forget about your proteins. We will have chicken, pork, and beef available at the market this week. Wash it all down with apple cider and finish the day with a slice of pie.
But let’s take a moment to recognize the star of the fall season. Gourds! They are a quirky, whimsical part of the fall harvest that comes in a variety of shapes, colors, and sizes. Gourds (and squashes!) feature many vibrant hues like deep greens, bright yellows, and rich oranges. Some have a nice smooth surface, while the ribs of others are covered in lumps and bumps.
Squashes and pumpkins are grown and harvested for their culinary use. Their soft, fleshy pulp can be featured in a savory side, filling entree, or sweet dessert. They are packed with magnesium, potassium, calcium, and help maintain a regular heartbeat and lower blood pressure and cholesterol. You can roast, mash, puree, sautée, grill, or stuff them. They can pair well with herbs and garlic to create a butternut squash soup or a yellow squash casserole. To leave your tastebuds wanting more, nutmeg and cinnamon become a power couple for a delicious pumpkin dessert. Pumpkin rolls, cheesecake, or pancakes can be a fun recipe to add to your fall recipe book. If you are unsure of how you can cook with your pumpkin purchase, the vendors can definitely help pinpoint the perfect recipe for you.
The market offers a diverse selection of decorative gourds to cover your front porch or be a decorative centerpiece on the table. Or, if you are like me, just a fun little addition to celebrate the season. Ranging from little pumpkins that can fit in the palm of your hand to giant gourds that require an extra hand to lift, you will find the perfect addition to carve, paint, or leave it in it’s natural beauty. But beware! Make sure you toss it out before it becomes mushy!
The market offers other treats you do not have to prepare at home. Our bakers prepare fresh treats every week you can munch on while looking at other vendors. Or, this week, we will have a handful of craft vendors that bring handmade goods to lift the summer blues. No matter what you are looking for at the Tiffin Seneca Farmer’s Market, you won’t leave empty-handed or empty bagged. If you aren’t sure what exactly you’re looking for, vendors are more than happy to start up a conversation with you and lend a listening ear. You’ll learn something new, meet up with a friend, or just enjoy the crisp morning air while going on a Saturday morning walk with a cup of coffee warming up your hands.
More support for the market comes from Wendy’s, Clouse Construction, KGS, and Diversified Graphics Inc.
